Abstract
How to enclose an area of largest volume by a given rope? The problem has been raised not later than the period of ancient Greek, about eigthth century to sixth century BC. Mathematically, this question is to ask how is the relation between the length of perimeter and the volume of the enclosed area? This is also equivalent to the well-known problem, that how to enclose a largest land by riding a horse in a fixed period? As our knowledge of mathematic as well as physics grows, the problem has been derived and studied in various background.
