On the afternoon of October 26, 2022, the School of Mathematics convened a seminar on reforming the core curriculum of mathematics.
In preparation for the upcoming revision of the undergraduate academic programs at Tianjin University and to align with TJU standards for mathematics core courses, the current system of mathematics curriculum was upgraded. Courses such as "Advanced Mathematics," "Linear Algebra," "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics," and others essential to the "New Engineering" talent training platform were classified, graded, and restructured based on teaching objectives. Various course package plans were developed to suit different levels of mathematical proficiency.
The discussion also focused on improving the teaching content of courses like Advanced Mathematics, which involves revising content and optimizing the sequence of topics to emphasize its foundational support role for other disciplines like New Engineering. The courses will introduce definitions, theorems, and other theoretical applications to engage students, cultivate their thinking skills, so as to enhance their ability in using mathematical language to pose and solve problems.
Taking this comprehensive reform of the curriculum system as an opportunity, we will concentrate on enhancing teaching quality and promoting the standardization and regularization of mathematics core courses at Tianjin University. This endeavor aims to guide the continuous optimization and updating of mathematics education, ultimately serving the cultivation of high-quality and innovative talents.
